Mary Wilia Pettus Moore of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital with her family members by her side. Mary was born on June 6, 1946 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She was the third of eleven children born to Samuel and Lessie Estelle Pettus.
Mary was not only a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sibling, an aunt but she was a warrior and a woman of strength. Since 1995, she battled and overcame the series of strokes and seizures that attacked her body. Mary’s hobbies included spending time with her family in particular her grandchildren, reading her Watchtower magazines, completing crossword puzzles, and making her famous banana pudding. Her favorite pastime was eating out with her husband, James.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lessie Estelle Pettus, her brother Freddie Pettus, her sister Nancy Ann Credle, and her son Franklin Keith Moore. Her celebration of life will be by her children Stephanie (Darrin) Ashley, James D. Moore, and Mary M. Moore; by four brothers, Samuel (Geneva) Pettus, Woodrow (Shirley) Pettus, Glen (Yvonne) Pettus, and James Pettus; by four sisters, Yvonne (Jim) Brown, Betty Jean Love, Doris Burton and Estelle Pettus, her grandchildren Christopher (Mina) Ross, Brendon Ross, James Moore, DeShawn Osborne, Jasmil Moore, Deon Moore, Devin Osborne, Dominique Ashley, Mikala Ashley, and Jovantae Moore, and three great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
